As the year comes to an end, it’s a time to reflect on all things good and bad. Thankfully, reflecting and Mary Jane blend nicely together. This year I want to bring in the new year on a high note to self:
- Be proud of who you are, and all that you’ve accomplished big or small and,
- Be thankful that you are a part of the universe’s song, and that it’s a song so beautiful and perfect, you have to die to fathom it.
I also want to end the year and my final article of 2023 with a list, because for some reason we really love lists and our love for it happens for some reason we can’t explain. It’s part of the nuisances of existing that seem otherworldly and intuitive. Without further ado, here is the list of 13 other examples of this phenomenon.
- Getting stuck driving parallel to someone at the exact same speed.
- When you see a stranger make a face and when they stop making that face they look like a totally different person.
- Thinking something random and then someone says it out loud.
- Escaping what you thought was surely death or severe injury.
- Vibing with whatever weather is outside seemingly against your will.
- Having a conversation about some object and seeing it almost appear out of nowhere in your life for some time (ex. your friend mentions she wants to buy a blue Mazda and you suddenly see them everywhere on the road).
- Understanding what someone means in a foreign language.
- Deja vu that last a long time.
- Willing (or predicting) a song to play on the radio or playlist.
- Meeting a stranger who is definitely familiar.
- Thinking of someone and they call or show up in your life somehow.
- The awkward dance you to with someone when you are trying to avoid colliding with them, but you can’t get around each other.
- How some days feel long and some fast.
It’s the moments that make us suddenly and acutely aware of our presence, and in my opinion it’s a reminder that we are always exactly where we need to be. I hope 2024 brings a year of more of this kind of awareness instead of expectations of a better (and nonexistent) future. Here’s to a new year of nothing to lose.
